Mini Implants

Mini-implants are small titanium screws, used to anchor or stabilize a bridge or denture. They were originally conceived as a temporary device to hold shifting dentures in place, but were approved as a long-term device in 1999. Mini-implants are quicker and less expensive to place in the jaw than standard implants.

While a standard implant can take up to six months to integrate, the patient can frequently go home on the day of receiving a mini-implant with a stable denture. Patients can often undergo this procedure with a simple anesthetic injection in the gum where the implant will be placed. A mini-implant can also be used to support a crown where there is not enough room for a standard implant.
